The book I read to research this post was The Tomb Of Chewang Nima by Mark Horrell which is a very good book which I bought on kindle. The title refers to a mountaineer who died on one of the mountains they climbed and apparently his body had been found but not collected. Apparently in cases like that they send a helicopter to collect and usually that’s within a couple of days but that hadn’t happened although he says they might be having problems sorting out the insurance. This book which is quite short is about his trip to quite a remote part of Nepal where he climbed the mountain next to Mount Everest among other things but not Everest which he has said he has climbed since. There is quite in this book on climbing various peaks but I think it is the general information on Nepal where it excels. I have downloaded lots of Mark Horrell and he does seem quite prolific and also has a book out about his ascent of Everest which I will buy at a later date. In this book he flew to Kanthmandu and he couldn’t catch the connecting flight to where he wanted to go because was closed for refurbishment and it was supposed to be open but they hadn’t finished it on time. Instead he had to fly to another airport and then travel in 4 off road vehicles which was because the roads were horrendous and he describes as being like a rodeo travelling in these and they had to drop off a mother and daughter because they couldn’t take any more of it. When they got to their location they found out someone else had poached 7 of their guides with more money almost at the last minute. The guides had to supply their own food for the trip so squabbled over who was going to carry the tourists food because obviously the lucky person could help himself to their food. I enjoyed this book although it has more on the actual climbing than anything which was a bit dull.
